Taylor's Fine Violins Violin Shop is now Taylor's Fine Violins, Orange. We have moved from Southern California to Orange, NSW Australia. Headed South East from downtown Orange on the Mitchell highway (Bathurst Road) turn right on Lone Pine just before Harvey Norman, and immediately right on Orchard Grove Rd; Our store is 8A Orchard Grove Rd, the third house on the right. '

We specialize in the sale, restoration or repair and purchase of modern, baroque and transitional violins. I mostly restore and sell genuine antiques, instruments that are 100 years old or older. I do not sell brand new instruments of any kind, unlike most of my competitors, who usually sell mass produced new Chinese violins in the student and intermediate level. A market where I sell IMHO better sounding antiques for a similar price.

My violin store caters to lovers of all types of music, and features instruments that appeal to a wide range of musical tastes, especially instruments that show signs of decades of use through natural, not artificial wear to the instrument and varnish. (Instruments for sale)

In addition to careful competent violin repairs, I spend a lot of time with set up; Bridge, soundpost, pegs and fingerboard, to get the best sound possible from each and every instrument I work on. I price my instruments quite reasonably, you may be pleasantly surprised at my prices. While I have a select few higher end instruments, I specialize in affordable student and intermediate grade violins.

My repair prices are reasonable too; $100AUD to fit a bridge, $75 to fit a soundpost, $150 to fit a new set of pegs, including the high quality parts. I charge as little as $350 to disassemble the violin, repair up to three cracks, and put it all back together again in tip top shape, but fittings are extra. I do have violin strings and parts, and can order anything I don't have in stock.

I pride myself in being up front and straight forward with my customers, and am looking forward to serving you to the best of my ability. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY is my motto. I do not offer written appraisals but I do offer free informed verbal opinions and recommendations.

I have over 30 years experience in building and restoring musical instruments. I have spent my time roughly 50/50 between building clavichords (baroque keyboard instruments) and restoring violins. For the last 18 years I have concentrated on violins, slowly building up my skills and inventory. Now that we are moved to Australia our inventory is smaller, but we have all the tools and supplies to do a top notch job of setting up your violin.

I have about 9 years of apprenticeships with viola maker C.Martin Kob, Yucaipa CA, bow maker T. Burdell Tenney, Redlands CA, and violin maker Ruth Evans, Riverside CA.
